Performative Validations

Video series, 2016.
In collaboration with Emily Martinez as Anxious to Make.

Description

Anxious to Make’s Performative Validations are a series of commissioned video performances from the gig-economy platform, Fiverr.com, in which for-hire spokespeople perform scripts written by Anxious to Make that specifically address artists’ common existential anxieties. Not unlike therapy, these solutions have the added value of providing accountability, motivation, and moral support. The series includes a Performative Validation for Working with Unfamiliar Materials for artists working outside their mediums of choice; a Performative Removal for Creative Block for stuck artists; and a Performance to Externalize Distrust for artists experiencing a growing sense of distrust in the systems that govern their lives, careers, communities, nations, and/or planet.
