Making You, Making Others
Video series, 2015-16.
In collaboration with Emily Martinez as Anxious to Make.
Description
The two videos, Making You (2015) and Making Others (2016) are a promotional video/performance collaboration between an algorithm, a pair of artists, and a gig-economy-spokesperson-for-hire. In Making You, a commissioned voice-over actor named VoiceOverPete reads a script generated from the Google Suggest API with auto-derived completions to the phrase, "How to make yourself ____". Making Others is the companion piece to Making You, and follows the same format, completing the phrase "How to make others _____". Both of these videos are part of an ongoing series about the sharing economy that asks: how can we use the sharing economy as a resource for developing new forms of critical art practice – as a space for performance, production, collaboration or resistance?
