Freedom Instruments Toolkit

Installation + Social Practice Project, 2017.
In collaboration with Kelly Gregory and Brett Snyder.

Description

Freedom Instruments Toolkit (F.I.T.), is an installation and social practice project that allows participants to critically engage the question, “Can we design freedom?” Working from the idea that freedom can’t be designed en masse, F.I.T. offers a peer-to-peer process for interviewing individuals on their own experiences with freedom by using a specialized, custom-printed deck of cards and custom-built, hexagonal seating installation.

Freedom Instruments Toolkit was developed as part of the inaugural fellowship program at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) in San Francisco, CA, and received additional funding from continued YBCA grants.
